About Me: I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and primarily raised in Palmer, Massachusetts. I have four older brother and three younger sisters. My mother raised all seven of us primarily on her own. She is a school teacher in a special education room for a high school. Growing up was a bit of a challenge financially for my family. So I started work at the age of fourteen. I knew that my only chance to succeed in life was to go to college. I worked hard throughout my school years in hopes to continue on to higher education. When I was a senior in high school, I applied to Johnson & Wales University for an A.S. in Culinary Arts. My hopes were to follow my brothers' foot steps and continue on for a B.S. in Hospitality Management. To my surprise, my path changed when I came across my passion for nutrition in my Nutrition Sensory class. I immediately explored my options, finished my degree at Johnson & Wales University and moved onto a B.S. in Nutrition at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. College was a bit of a struggle for a student raised in poverty, but I did not let it stop me. I worked and studied hard to only succeed. Upon graduation, I found a position at Women, Infants, and Children in Springfield, Massachusetts. Improving the well-being of low-income communities, especially young children is very important to me. My passion for the well-being of our young children is what leads me on my next journey. Recently, I graduated from Westfield State University with a Masters of Education in Early Childhood. I plan to combine my passion for nutrition, young children, low-income communities and education into one mold that can promote the change that we hope to see. Please enjoy my portfolio! |
